from Jerry814:

The DSL, PC and secured wireless Router all fed by UPS power.

this should never happen. Yet it does. About to ditch the Linksys Wireless router with just what???????

In the real world of Public Safety Communications, there is a very simple solution. It is called a "dead-man" or "watchdog" timer. The OS must "kick" the Man or the Dog every second, or an "unmaskable interupt" will reset the CPU.

Once had the oportunity to "drive" a locomotive railway engine under close supervision. You got out of the seat, the system shut down. You see the point.
