CYYT feed back up
« on: September 27, 2010, 06:42:37 PM »
After a lengthy power failure, CYYT is back up an operational again.  Sorry for the inconvenience.  126.7 will carry most of the VFR traffic in the Clarenville/Bonavista area however a/c will have to be at 2-3000 ft to be picked up by the feed station due to distance.

Cheers,
Ian.

Ian, I thank you for this feed. I have a question, I am not hearing anything from Gander Center or Halifax Radio. Is it possible to get coverage for the Atlantic crossing aircraft?

A dedicated radio to cover the high altitude crossing traffic would be interesting. I can donate funds for another radio if it's possible. I don't advocate adding them to the current setup as they can be very busy and would block out what you have on there now.

I've noted that the last few times I've been to the area that you can not hear the Gander Center High Altitude controllers from the vicinity of the airport or in town (although I haven't tried from up on Signal Hill). Official Nav Canada documents (Canada Flight Supplemet) list the Gander High Altitude Center frequencies as transmitting from "St. John's" but they do not appear to be at the airport or close by ? 125.075, 128.175, 132.050, 134.700.

The Gander Low Altitude frequency 133.150, also listed at "St. John's" comes in loud and clear in the vicinity of the airport, as well as the Gander Radio frequency of 122.375. The other Gander Radio frequency of 126.900 is also listed at "St. John's" but in the times I've been there have not been able to hear the radio operator in the vicinity of the airport on that frequency.

Can anyone in the St. Johns area provide more insite as to where these high altitude tansmitters are actually located ? And can they be heard from any locations in the area ? I'm guessing you must be able to get them from the top of Signal Hill ? Now that would be a good location for a feed ! There is a Ham Radio base station located there. Maybe they would be interested ?

A high altitude feed covering the following suggested frequencies would be ideal.

125.075 (YYT and south)
128.175 (YYT and south)
132.050 (YYT and south)
134.700 (YYT and south)
125.900 (north of YYT)
132.600 (north of YYT)
133.900 (north of YYT)
122.375 (Gander Radio)
126.900 (Gander Radio)
