CYVR Vancouver: Now Bigger + Better on 2 Feeds!
« on: March 22, 2014, 04:15:53 AM »
It was a dark and stormy night (okay maybe not) and all was still when a power outage hit the area around CYVR!  That outage lasted longer than desired and it was discovered that there must have been a surge that killed the PSU.  No power meant no ATC audio for CYVR Vancouver.

Instead of another bandaid fix to revive a rather ghetto feed setup (the power cord was held in by an elastic band), the antenna was relocated to a much better location from a random corner on ground level, up and out to pickup some better signals for us all.  Testing, retrofitting, and drilling were all required as part of this adventure in order to run new ethernet and BNC cabling, antenna mounting, and other fun stuff to deliver some much clearer audio!  Thanks to LiveATC for helping with some hardware.  We've gone from various old systems limping beyond their 9th life, to a simplified Raspberry Pi system, dual scanners, and more frequencies that should also provide us with more comprehensive audio as well as better stability and uptime overall.

You probably see that the feed for CYVR is now split into CYVR Approach/Departure and CYVR Del/Gnd/Twr.

As always, thanks for your patience...
Happy listening!   :-D
