The twister swirled into the sprawling air field and while it missed the passenger terminal, it took a direct strike on several general aviation buildings on the east side of the airport, officials said.
OMAHA, Neb. — Several buildings at Omaha’s airport facility suffered significant damage as a tornado roared across the airfield Friday, but luckily no one was injured.

As Tornado Warnings blared across eastern Nebraska during Friday's tornado outbreak, officials at Omaha’s Eppley Field instructed passengers in the terminal to take shelter in their designated storm shelters.

Airport weather observers sighted a funnel cloud just before 5 p.m. CDT and closed down airport operations a few minutes later.    The twister swirled into the sprawling air field and while it missed the passenger terminal, it took a direct strike on several general aviation buildings on the east side of the airport, officials said. The tornado's funnel was visible to airport weather observers for a full 35 minutes.

It's bad here..

The only buildings on the GA side of the field that are still standing are the Signature and JetLinx FBOs, and Customs. Everything else is all but gone. It was crazy that there were those who were about to board a few flights that were told to go back into the terminal, get away from the windows and shelter in place. Tower went ATC Zero as well.

KLNK fared slightly better, in that about 15 miles east of it on I-80, a stormchaser caught two separate tornadoes; each one on opposite sides of the freeway. Amazingly, no fatalities on the Nebraska side of the weather.

What's making it harder is that the weather is about to pop off again tomorrow, so it will be interesting to monitor the METARs, ATIS, and live feeds around the OMA area.

Thanks..

Looks like the OKC area is going to get it the most today.. looks like a line from Elk City (KRQO) over to OKC then up to Vance AFB, then up to ICT. If it makes Omaha, it would be tomorrow, but we'd catch the tail end of it as it traverses northeast.
