CONCORD, Calif. ( KRON ) — Three Cessna planes were tipped over by high winds at Buchanan Field Airport in Concord on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The incident happened around 2 p.m., and the FAA reports that none of the planes were preparing for flight at the time. A Cessna 210 and two Cessna 172s were flipped in the incident.Airport officials with Contra Costa County said no one was inside the planes when they toppled over, and no one was nearby. Nearby at KSFO the same day there were steady winds near 50mph. I heard a pilot om tower frequency who was holding near the runway awaiting suitable conditions if.  He Could turn the plane pointing into the wind while waiting, apparently it was rocking pretty good. One thing that was fortunate that afternoon was the strong wind was directly on runway heading. So planes could in general operate. Though they were getting air speed variaitons  as  much as 20kts while departing on ascent
