As crews were recovering debris from Tuesday's helicopter crash into Lake Apopka, they discovered more wreckage.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office was initially bewildered by the discovered wreckage, but later determined its origins."It appears the second helicopter also went down yesterday later in the day after the first one. The pilot from this second incident is safe," officials wrote. The county's marine unit is assessing and more information is expected later Wednesday.

Residents of this area were stunned to learn two choppers went down.

“I've lived on this lake for 30 years and we've never had anything like this where you have two helicopters go down in one day. Kind of weird,” Lester Bailey, a Winter Garden resident, said.

The first helicopter crash was part of a regular operation to spray pesticide on the lake to reduce the growth of invasive plants and it was doing that spraying when it went down.

That pilot was also OK.

We don't know yet whether the second helicopter was involved in that same operation, but according to the tail number, it is owned by Coastal Helicopters in Panama City.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
