FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A 17-year-old girl is in custody after she got into an empty plane and crashed it into a fence, according to the girl's mother.

It happened around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday off the runway at Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

According to the girl's mother, her daughter ran away from home Tuesday night and hasn't been seen since. The mother says her daughter has never run away before.

The mother says her daughter doesn't even know how to drive a car.

The Public Relations Officer at Fresno Yosemite International Airport says the 17-year-old got into a King Air 200 propeller-driven aircraft and was able to start one engine.
The 17-year-old then began to move and pivot the aircraft and crashed into a building and a fence on airport property, airport officials say.

The aircraft never became airborne and the aircraft sustained substantial damage, airport officials say.

Airport officials say the 17-year-old was disoriented and uncooperative when she was taken into custody for theft of an aircraft.

Fresno Yosemite International Airport is currently working with the Federal Aviation Administration and other authorities investigating this incident.
