He told reporters gathered that all pilots and airline were aware of the decision and would be landing their planes at their final destinations.
Under the emergency order, all Boeing 787 Max 8 that are already in the air will be grounded after arriving at their destinations.
"It's a terrible, terrible thing," Trump said, adding that "Boeing is an incredible company. They are working very hard right now."
The emergency order comes after a Boeing 787 Max 8 from Ethiopian Airlines crashed in Ethiopia a mere six minutes after it took off to head to Nairobi.
The crash killed all 157 people on board. According to Ethiopian Airlines, the pilot sent out a distress call and was told to return to the airport.
At that point, all contact was lost with the plane.
Canada, Europe and Asia have already grounded the Boeing 787 Max jets.
Boeing released a statement on the matter, saying they support the temporary suspension.
