QUEENS, N.Y. (WKRC) — A wild animal was seemingly hoping to hitch a ride at an airport in New York, but its plot was foiled when he fell through an airport ceiling tile.

And it was all caught on camera.

Footage circulating on social media shows Spirit Airline passengers waiting near an airline gate at LaGuardia Airport Monday morning when a raccoon falls through one of the ceiling tiles.

Video, which was posted on TikTok by @outsideiswithinit, shows the raccoon as it hangs on to a wire that stretches above the ceiling tiles.

Despite gripping on with all four limbs, the raccoon examines its surroundings and decides to take the plunge, prompting some screams from onlookers.  “To ensure a positive experience for our LGA Guests, we immediately notified the facilities team and are addressing the matter with a professional wildlife control company,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement, per CNN.
According to a CNN, a witness said the raccoon ran from airport employees for about five minutes until crews finally managed to move the animal outside.

“The raccoon was safely located and released outside, with no further sightings report,” according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

No injuries were reported, according toCNN.

“To ensure safety, airport staff is working closely with a professional wildlife control company to monitor the area, identify potential entry points, and implement necessary precautions,” the Port Authority told CNN. “Ongoing inspections and follow-up efforts are in place to prevent further incidents.”
