Title: US Airways 1702 aborted takeoff/nose gear failure

From NBC10 Philadelphia:

A US Airways flight leaving Philadelphia Thursday evening was evacuated after a mechanical failure.

US Airways flight #1702 was leaving from Philadelphia International Airport headed to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. when the aircraft's landing gear collapsed, forcing the pilot to abort take-off, according to airline officials.

Emergency crews were able to evacuate the plane safely through traditional and emergency exits. Passengers are on the runway awaiting pickup near gate 11.

Two people suffered minor injuries in the emergency.

Looks like they need a longer slide in the rear for this type of evacuation.

The nose gear tire blew as the aircraft was accelerating for takeoff, causing the aircraft to veer off the runway. The gear probably collapsed when the aircraft left the paved surface.
