We have a feed at CYHZ, but I no longer have audio editing software. Maybe someone could go through our archives and compress the audio... but until then, here is the ATC Audio:

Don't, personally, see a lot of cargo jets heading from ORD to Halifax. Plus, rather unusual livery. Any particular story here - or not ?

Joey, thanks for sharing my video.

I'm really interested and curious about this incident so I'll be following the investigation closely. Just some points that I know now but didn't know when editing the video is that the ILS for 23 was inop and they were not RNAV capable so the only option for 23 was a circle to land (quite difficult due to the BKN005 layer).

Runway 32 would have been better anyway. Really sad to see that Queen laying there

Possibly a tech stop on their way to Europe. When I was a fueler at KYIP way back when, I fueled several Kalitta 747's heading for Gander (CYQX), then Ostend (EBOS), due to heavy cargo loads and a relatively short runway (7,500 ft) at KYIP. Coming out of O'Hare, seems like a tech stop would not be needed though. O'Hare has significantly longer runways... wonder what her final destination was...

As far as the markings, she had "SKY LEASE CARGO" titles on the other side. Not real sure why she's marked the way she is. She has different logos on either side of the tail too...

However, according to this, she had NO CARGO on board. Empty. So this would not have been a tech stop.

"Sky Lease Cargo flight KYE/GG4854 (Callsign: „SkyCube 4854“) , a Boeing 747-400F took off at Chicago O’Hare Intl Airport at 01:02L and was approaching its destination, the Stanfield Intl Airport at Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada at 05:10L being in the air for about 2 hours and 5 minutes. There was no cargo on board the flight."

This article includes ATC Transcript, and a LiveATC.net link to an audio mp3. Lots of pictures too.

           Thank you, Joey...

 :-D

Off-the-wall thought, maybe she was to pick up a load of fish...that's the largest export for that area...just a guess. Empty going in, after a 2 hour flight from a major airport...definitely not a tech stop...

Yup, she was bound for Halifax empty, scheduled to pick up local seafood, then fly on to Asia according to this article:
