Plant 42-Palmdale AFFTC-inflight emergency
« on: July 28, 2011, 01:09:50 PM »
This morning (Thurs. 7-21-11) at 09:22 am, pilot (N0908) declared an inflight emergency(over SoCal). (After a brief silence)....Joshua asked for further...nature of problem, type a/c,and souls on board). Pilot responded...followed by silence (from Joshua. Second declaration...Joshua acknowledges...then more silence. Third declaration...and at that point, pilot requests immediate into William J. Fox. Joshua responds that Fox is closed. The entire freq. is dead quiet..then yet another pilot chimes in "Joshua,he's declared three times !!". Joshua responds with "we're busy with other traffic". N0908 requests an immediate into Plant 42-Palmdale (USAF)...and finally gets the go-ahead for the landing (from the Palmdale tower). At that point,I ran outside (to glass his approach). Out of the corner of my eye,I catch something plummeting to the ground (right about where N0908 should be)....and my heart just sank.Suddenly,I realized I was looking at a raptor ! (diving for his breakfast). N0908 made it in (engine failure)...and both occupants were met by security. What a morning !! I did not record the event on DVR....

What a bummer! I would have loved to hear that conversation.
