VEVAY TWP. — No one was injured after a plane made an emergency landing Thursday at Mason Jewett Airport.

Capital Region International Airport Director of Marketing Katherine Japinga said in an email Friday morning the plane had to make the emergency landing Thursday afternoon due to mechanical issues and engine failure.

It landed safely and slid off the runway into the grass before it could stop, causing what Japinga described as minimal damage to the runway and airfield.

Japinga did not release how many people were on board or a description of the plane.

She said the airfield was temporarily closed to remove the aircraft from the grass. It was removed Thursday night but was still at the airport Friday morning and awaiting repairs.

The runway reopened shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, she said.

The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the potential problem with the aircraft but stopped its response en route to the airport after the plane safely landed
