It was scheduled to fly into Russian airspace at 17:20 Moscow standard time, the agency said.
“However, it fell down 60 kilometres from the border; the plane’s emergency location beacon went off,” a source told the agency.
It is believed all 285 passengers on board have died.

Just watching CNN. They're saying that US military officials believe that the Ukrainian Military Cargo plane that was shot down on Monday was shot down by a missile originating on the Russian side of the border. Suggesting that perhaps poorly trained Russian military mistook this passenger liner for another military transport.

Can someone please find the ATC recordings of MH17 departing EHAM?

The EHAM tower archive at 1030z catches the MH17 departure clearence.

Seems incontestable that Russia isn't either directly or indirectly responsible for this. The Ukrainians can no interest at all in firing missiles in these circumstances; even in the doubtless fevered atmosphere in Kiev, no one surely assumed that the separatists commanded large aircraft capable of flying nine miles high.
