I was in a collision and need help finding the audio
« on: September 05, 2024, 19:50:36 UTC »
Hi everybody. I was a passenger on this flight:

https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/420010

A Delta flight hit the rear of our plane while turning. I knew the second it happened- the plane shook and lurched forward. I also saw a fragment of metal(?) drifting through the air before settling on the ground. But when the delta flight took off, I thought that the plane hadn't hit us, and that I had just imagined it. Today I had a gut instinct and googled it, and found the above. If anybody could find the audio for it, I'd be grateful. I can't find any more details. Thank you.

This incident most likely happened while the flight crew was talking to a ground controller.  LiveATC Archives are available for seven days.  It looks like what you're looking for is right at the seven-day limit now.  Suggest you search the LiveATC website for KATL and then scroll down to the KATL ground feeds.  There are a number of ground feeds available.  Not sure which ground feed your flight would have been on so I would try downloading a number of them to see if you can find the audio you want.  Keep in mind that the archives are stored in 30-minute increments and all times are referenced to Zulu time (GMT).  If you're unable to get these archives within the seven-day limit, you would then need to contact LiveATC directly to get the archived audio.  You can do that by going here:

https://www.liveatc.net/ct/contact.php

I hope this helps.

You can try submitting an FAA FOIA request using the link below. ATC facilities maintain audio recordings for 45 days.

Hope this helps.
