4 dead in Kentucky plane crash, state police say

DEVELOPING –  Four people were killed in a Kentucky plane crash Friday night, state police said, and a 7-year-old girl apparently survived and walked away from the wreckage.

A disoriented girl walked to a home and reported that she had been involved in a plane crash, Sgt. Dean Patterson of the Kentucky State Police said. The resident called 911 and the girl was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities located the aircraft a couple hours later near Eddyville in Lyon County and confirmed that the pilot and three other passengers were killed.

Air traffic controllers lost contact with a Piper PA-34 as it was flying over Marshall County in the southwestern part of the state, Kathleen Bergen of the FAA told The Associated Press. The pilot had reported engine problems.

A half-hour later, a Lyon County resident called 911 and told dispatchers a 7-year-old girl walked up to his home and said she was involved in a plane crash, Kentucky Police Sgt. Dean Patterson said.

"This girl came out of the wreckage herself and found the closest residence and reported the plane crash," Patterson said. "It's a miracle in a sense that she survived it, but it's tragic that four others didn't."

The girl was in emotional distress and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Patterson said the plane had taken off from Key West, Florida and was headed to Mount Vernon, Illinois.

Amazing... She walks away from a fatal airplane crash that took the lives of those she was seated inches from. I would call this a tragic miracle...if there is such a thing.

RIP to those lost... Thoughts for the survivor...
