FULLERTON, California, April 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Beechcraft B60 Duke airplane crashed and exploded into flames at the Fullerton Municipal Airport on Thursday evening, officials said.

Fullerton Police Department tweeted at 9:40 p.m.: “A plane crash has been reported at the Fullerton Airport.Fullerton is a city located in northern Orange County, California.

Initial reports indicate that the plane became engulfed in fire, police said.

Footage of the scene posted to Twitter showed intense flames as well as thick clouds of black smoke.

Fullerton Fire officials confirmed to multiple Los Angeles-based news outlets that the pilot, who was the only person on board, was killed in the crash.

FAA records show the airplane was registered to a company based in Helena, Montana, and had a valid flight status. The aircraft tail number of the plane is N65MY, which has a private owner. The fixed-wing multi-engine plane has six seats and was manufactured in 1974.

The plane was reportedly headed to Heber City Municipal Airport, and records show it was in Provo three days ago.

The pilot has not been identified.
