Just heard on the news that a fighter jet (the news said f16) and a private plane (news said piper cub) had collided near charleston in the last hour. Don't have anything more.

Cnn is putting it at 11am and has a photo of a jet engine lying next to a camping trailer. Said it is unknown about injuries/ fatalities. 11 miles north of Charleston.

I don't see a feed for Charleston, SC, on this website. Sorry.

Sad case indeed.  NTSB has the aircraft type as Cessna 150.  Not been able to find a tail number published yet.

From the reports that I've read it sounded like the 150 was VFR and climbed into the path of the F-16 at 1,200 feet. ATC notified the F-16 of an unidentified target ahead of him and on an opposite track. I was wondering if it is standard practice for a military aircraft to have its radar on and if so wouldn't the F-16 have seen the plane ahead or was it too low to clear the ground clutter?
