A preliminary report indicates two people were aboard when a small plane crashed near Lamoni along Interstate 35 Thursday morning.

The sheriff’s office said the incident happened just before 8 a.m. The plane crashed near the runway at the Lamoni Municipal Airport on airport property. Airport sources tell KCCI the plane was attempting to land when it crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration said in a release that preliminary reports indicate two people were on board the single-engine Cirrus SR-22.

Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft accidents."

People working near the crash site tell KCCI they heard what sounded like an explosion.
