Air India 787 Crashes Shortly After Takoff
« on: June 12, 2025, 16:43:34 UTC »
An Air India Boeing 787 (AIC171) crashed into a residential neighborhood in Ahmedabad, India shortly after takeoff.  The flight was enroute to London Gatwick and had 242 passengers and crew on board.  According to a survivor, there was a "loud bang" after takeoff but at the moment no other information is available as to what exactly happened.

There is a video of the plane taking off here:  What we know after Air India plane crashes with 242 people onboard near Ahmedabad airport

I always hate to speculate ahead of the investigation, but am I crazy, or does it look like the flaps are retracted?  It appears the plane was struggling to climb, which would be consistent with lack of takeoff flaps.  I hope that doesn't turn out to be the cause of this!

Wow!  It is pretty clear from that new video that no flaps were deployed for the takeoff.

An unconfirmed report says the pilot called "Mayday, no thrust, losing power, unable to lift" just before the crash.
