Plane crash in San Francisco bay
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:11:33 PM »
A Cessna 210 Centurion lost power at about 1:50 p.m. The pilot called in to report the power failure and about 10 to 15 minutes later, a mayday call was issued to the CHP saying a plane was in the water.

There were two passengers on board. A Coast Guard boat happened to be in the area on a training exercise and picked up both passengers. Both passengers have been taken to Yerba Buena Island where the San Francisco Fire Department and paramedics are evaluating them.

There are some environmental concerns because of the gas and oil on board the plane.

*edit* Clip now attached, the mayday call and coast guard were on 120.9, but there is major interference on the NORCAL departure feed... I clipped what I could from it.

whoa..

Yerba Buena Island is pretty much the Bay Bridge between San Francisco and Oakland. I'd think they would have to have been north of there otherwise they would have been within 5nm of 4 different airports (including Alameda Naval Base). I'd definitely be interested in this clip, and I'm glad that they were able to walk away from it.

Rescue Video courtesy United States Coast Guard.

Numerous boats and a helicopter were nearby, conducting a search-and-rescue demonstration for an international delegation of visitors from Japan, China, South Korea, Canada and Russia.
