If it really was a 25-knot tailwind, I don't blame him.  Sometimes noise abatement wins out?  Or maybe they just hadn't switched runways yet.

They did make the change to the 31's, it wasn't like they were ignoring the existence of the tail wind.

It's not like they don't know what they're doing there.  Those guys are some of the best in the biz.  But it is true that sometimes they have little control due to other factors.

Interesting clip, Dave.  Was this from yesterday?  The winds up in Syracuse, NY, were reported by a couple of pilots as out of the southwest at 40 knots at 500 feet AGL, due to that low pressure system that had just passed, but a more docile 12 knots on the ground.  There have been other times when it has been screaming out of the west down to 500 feet or so but light out of the east on the ground.

Do you recall what the winds on the ground at Kennedy were?

Holy tailwind batman! That's like 2.5x illegal - max tailwind for most commercials is 10 knots. 

If you put the ATIS winds into the box it will come up with a head and crosswind component, not sure about tailwind but surely I'd have thought they'd figure it out before commencing the approach. 

Our manuals say below 1,000ft IMC or 500ft VMC if the winds are out of limits you have to execute a missed approach.

The 10-knot tailwind is not necessarily a limit. It is used as a maximum end-point to determine runway take-off and landings distances for the AFM performance data.
(Theoroletically, you can land with a 40-knot tailwind if you don't mind rolling about 3 miles down the runway!)
Incidentally, the reported winds given are as recorded by the wind station, officially at a height of 3 meters AGL. Winds above that level normally increase by an exponential factor, bui can vary is speed and even reverse direction, due to low-level windshears.

I'm surprised the pilot continues to remain angry after hearing that they're changing runways. He should've gone around if he didn't feel it was safe.  He should also realize that changing arrival flows doesn't happen with the snap of a finger with EWR/LGA/JFK all being intertwined.

This clearly shows a pilot who doesn't see the big picture.

I don't know the JFK area real well but if Newark and JFK were landing and departing opposite directions I would think that would create some real issues.

How would ATC know what the winds were at 500 feet AGL? When I was an ATC'er the anemometer was only 20' off the ground.
