video/audio ATL arrival/departure in a piston
« on: April 05, 2011, 08:49:00 PM »
I don't know how interesting this will be, but it seems to be relatively rare for a piston to fly in/out of ATL.  I flew there for business a few weeks ago and thought the video/audio might be of interest to some folks.

(picking up the IFR clearance with Atlanta Center, notice how many pilots he deals with before coming back to me with the clearance, edited down to just the callsigns to make the point).

.

Yes, that's an F/A-18 parked ahead of me.  I'm told that he missed some sort of a curfew the night before and diverted to ATL. The FBO said it was the first F/A-18 they'd had.  He picked up 1800 gallons.  I picked up 5.9 :)

The video quality is fairly poor due to excessive vibration (luck of the draw with random tripod placement), and as a result of using a new video editing suite, and being unable to get a decent rendering configuration for youtube.  Still, the audio is good, though..and there's a LOT of it.

Man, can those guys work some busy skies. They are absolutely unflappable.

Edit: oh, on the departure video, after issuing the clearance, the controller asks if my destination is "CIA or an Army base."   Kinda, it's a an Army Aux field with incredibly cheap gas!

Thanks, but no...I lived in England for a few years from 4-6yrs of age, but that's about it. I spent most of my time in Australia after that, then moved to the US when I was 21.  That's where I learned to fly.

Oh.  Well you've retained our accent.  I leaned to fly in the US as well.

Anyway, thank again and good  luck - enjoyed flying with you!

That's great stuff... I have not had the chance to fly into ATL, but maybe I will put that on my bucket list! 8-)

Neat Vids! Thanks for sharing!  8-)

The F/A-18 looks out of place on that ramp, but still cool!

Also, I like how they cleared you for take off while no less then eight commercial aircraft wait in line!  8-)
