"Calling Newark tower speaking...French?"

I've forgotten 98% of the French that I once knew poorly. Anyone have any ideas where these transmissions might have come from? Was on 127.85 around 4:20pm today.

most likely a couple foreign pilots thought they were talking on company channel or were discussing something amongst themselves, it happens.

It was an Air Transat flight that originated out of Montreal.  Sounds like they thought they thought they were talking to company frequency.  Pilots were Canadian.

They were actually talking to either CYQB TCU or TWR requesting runway 06, indeed air transat

Yes Quebec TCU does have 127.85 as well as Newark Tower.  Guess the aircraft was high enough to reach both locations.  It was an Air Transat flight talking with Quebec TCU.

The flight was TSC287 (Air Transat) Airbus 330 enroute MMUN (Cancun) to CYQB (Quebec City).  The pilot did say he was still talking with Boston ACC on initial call with Quebec TCU on 127.85.

Thanks for the detailed info! Interesting he'd reach both Quebec and EWR from his position.

Yes aircraft would have to be at a fairly high altitude.  Pilot was checking ahead of time with Quebec TCU on what runway was in use.  Probably still had 2nd radio on Boston ACC as well.
