Vehicle on Rwy 25R LAX DL5700 Aborts Takeoff
« on: October 14, 2015, 03:06:21 PM »
CPZ5700 was given clearance to takeoff when a Los Angeles World Airports employee driving an official airport vehicle had mistakenly turned onto the runway from a taxiway and was headed toward the twin-engine jet. After being alerted by air traffic control, the pilot applied the brakes and pulled off the runway a few thousand feet down the runway. No injuries were reported.

Awesome, thank you Brad!

I just wanted to clarify the date and had no info as neither Flightaware nor FR24 had info of it on ground I was not able to figure out which one turned around when rolling.

Thanks! :-) :-)

Thanks to all for the thread.

Examination of the archived material reveals that at the time the vehicle was driven on to the runway in front of the departing flight DL5700, two emergencies (one medical and one general) had already been declared on aircraft approaching the airport. Further details are in the attached mp3 from Final Approach. I imagine more info is available in the archives but its too late to look further tonight.
It seems distinctly possible the vehicle incursion happened as emergency services were preparing to meet the incoming emergencies.

From LA Times "Airport officials said they intercepted the car and later rescinded the employee's authorization to drive on airfield service roads. The driver had not been cleared to go on or near runways, officials said."

The controller did a very nice job. Very hectic. One emergency at a time is difficult enough

This recording is fascinating. This controller is balancing two emergencies, and even another plane that has hydraulic issues. Truly a pro.
