US Airways A319 Diverts to KSEA With #1 Engine Shut Down
« on: October 19, 2010, 08:20:04 PM »
"A US Airways Airbus A319-100, registration N832AW performing flight US-149 from Anchorage,AK to Phoenix,AZ (USA) with 130 people on board, was enroute at FL330 about 120nm northwest of Seattle,WA (USA) when the crew needed to shut down the left hand engine (V2524), that had stalled. The airplane diverted to Seattle for a safe landing."

From AvHerald:

Below is a pic of the aircraft involved, Airbus A319-132 N832AW (cn 1643).

Below is also the audio. I have consolidated Approach and Tower on to one file. I have cut out dead air and chatter between other aircraft. On the approach comms you can only hear the controller. Tower comms have both controller and aircraft, as well as a couple other vehicles:

Cactus 149: Emergency Aircraft.
Ops 3: Airport Operations.
Echo 30 Plus 3: Emergency 30 and three other vehicles.

Great job by all involved! Happy listening!  8-)

wow, that's a lot of ARFF action for a engine out, but I suppose it's also good practice as well. thanks for posting, sounded great!

Yeah most airports do not mess around with equipment malfunctions.  ATC and the airport fire department have agreements that state different types of emergencies and when they should be declared.  Where I work, if someone comes in with an engine out, the ARFF vehicles will wait for the aircraft at the runway.  Always better safe than sorry.
