An American West Airbus A320-200, registration N621AW performing flight AWE245 from Phoenix,AZ (USA) to Calgary,AB (Canada) with 153 people on board, was enroute, when an electrical failure occured affecting various systems including communication radios. The crew lost communication with Edmonton Area Control Center (CYBP feed). When the airplane reached the top of descent 107nm south of Calgary, the crew initiated the descent. 12 minutes later the crew was able to establish radio contact with Calgary Arrival and declared emergency. The airplane landed safely another 12 minutes later, emergency services on stand by were stood down.

Audio Notes:

CYBP feed and CYYC feed combined. I had to split the audio into two attachments. Audio is heavily edited.

1st half:

* Continental 1429 is being overtaken by AWE245 as they both head to Calgary Airport.
* AWE245 communication lost. (20 second mark)
* Continental 1429 requests to begin descent (1 min. 45 second mark)
* Controller slows Continental 1429 to allow AWE245 to pass to the left. (3 min. 30 sec.)
* Controller vectors 1429 into a slow loop.

2nd half:

* AWE245 finally manages to contact Calgary controller.
* Calgary controller communicates with emergency vehicles (6 min. 10 sec.)
* Westjet 314 holding short of runway for inbound US-245 (6 min. 50 sec.)
* Controller starts arranging emergency vehicles. (7 min. 16 sec.)
* Continental 1429 is sent into a holding pattern at VUCAN which is over the town of Vulcan, Alberta. (7 min. 40 sec.)
* Westjet 314 requests to depart before US-245 makes it in due to fuel issue. (8 min. 40 sec.)
* Continental 1429 holding pattern cancelled, cleared VUCAN approach. ( 9 min. 15 sec.)
* Continental 1429 switched to Calgary approach (10 min 7 sec.)
* Westjet 314 contacts departure after taking off. (10 min 15 sec.)

Ssomeone else (andreblt) posted the first Turkish crash graphic. I just added some more links.

Turkish 1951 thread:
http://www.liveatc.net/forums/listener-forum/turkish-airliner-crash/30/

The data/graphics for that came from http://www.openatc.com
The data there is collected by amateurs. Their coverage is mainly Britain and Western Europe.

An explanation on how to do this yourself is here:

Thanks kea001!

I remember them from the Turkish thread...I think it's neat to "see" where the airplane went. I like these!

Thanks again! 8-)
