Struggling to hear over my alarm clock at 6am, on the radio was a quick blurb about a Ups flight with the rear fusalage engulfed in flames at KPHL. More details will come, and a sound clip :D . The crew is fine , but hospitalized. Was watching the news and it looks like its on Runway 27 Right and still on it, the fire is out and good ol NTSB is there. No details how it started yet. It happened at About 4:30 eastern.

It was UPS1307 a DC-8 from ATL-PHL. Landed at 12:22am "after reporting a lower cargo and main deck smoke situation". The three crew members were taken to University of Pennsylvania Hospital where were are being treated for smoke inhalation. They were released at 4am.

It starts at about the middle of the 2330-0000 Feb 7th clip (approach). They check on, are given some vectors and 6000, another vector and down to 4000 around 23:53, finally down to 2100 for the approach, and they are switched to the tower.. no problem that I heard to here.
Then they check on with the tower, real calm, and report a cargo smoke indicator and ask for the equipment. Love the siren in the background when the controller hits the button... From there all the comms are with quick-donning hoods on, sounds like Darth Vadar of course.
Pretty much ends at the end of the 2330-0000 tower clip.

LOL ha, probably!

I have had problems with UPS before, and this situation doesn't help. I realize it may not have been their fault, and I'm curious what caused the smoke? Dangerous Goods on board? :? Glad you got your package alright though.
