Title: United Airlines bird strike, O'Hare Airport, just after take off.
Post by: KB4TEZ on October 17, 2022, 06:07:22 AM

(AVH)

Here's the audio I pulled, talk about cool calm and collected.

A United Boeing 737-900, registration N37413 performing flight UA-1930 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Miami,FL (USA), was in the initial climb out of O'hare's runway 22L when the crew stopped the climb at about 3000 feet due to the left hand engine (CFM56) suffering a series of compressor stalls/surges emitting streaks of flame. The aircraft returned to Chicago for a safe landing on runway 27C about 8 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 737-900 registration N37422 reached Miami with a delay of about 2:10 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Chicago about 22 hours after landing back.

I went ahead and pulled the rest of the flight after the handoff to Approach, and it got really interesting.  They were given 28C, but lined up for 27C -  tower was scrambling to keep everyone separated!  Attached is the audio from approach, and eventual handoff back to tower - lots going on in the last couple of minutes!  I am always amazed at how ATC pulls off a major disruption like this with such relative ease and grace.

Thank you, I just didn't have the time to dig into it all, but I was still amazed how calm (and well trained) everyone was.
I just figure I'd give the starting point, and everyone can go further from there.
Appreciate it !
