Title: Unidentified sound discussion on 134.15 Oakland Center
Post by: Squawk 7700 on January 31, 2010, 11:50:56 AM
United 3 and Delta 2438 discuss an unusual sound heard on Oakland Center 134.15 Sector 35 with ATC during the early morning hours of 31JAN10.

United 3 says it sounds like morse code and Delta described it as a teletype sound?
ATC thought they were hearing a VOR identifier.

I couldn't hear anything on my end either (Bay Area Location).

I heard it too.  I was monitoring it from my home in Fremont about a mile from Oakland Center itself.  It lasted for hours on and off.  It was very odd sounding.  It was a very short quick burst and the audio seemed to fade off while the carrier was still there.  The signal strength state the same the entire time so it was coming from a fixed location.  Unfortunately at the time, I did not have a way of recording it.  :-(

I hear the technicians doing a lot more radio tests for the past couple months now on 134.15
You can hear "center" going from static to full quieting often. Sounds like they have an intermittent problem with the transmitter? :?
