Title: United Airlines 870 tailstrike with pictures
Post by: Cap747 on May 07, 2010, 03:58:16 PM
This report is from AVHerald again, they are pretty fast gathering news here....

I have cutout some communications concerning the delay caused by the tailstrike.
Before the 747 landed again there was a helicopter hovering near an Airbus, but was not allowed to fly overhead ect.

Noticable is the Etihad 451 remark saying:
"We heard 10 minutes. We gonna shut two engines down, we need 5 minutes warning for restart it if you're happy with it."

What typically happens to the flight crew after a tailstike?

The AVHerald story say's they returned after 80 minutes of fuel dumping, the airplane now will be inspected, see if it can do a ferry flight( maintenance flight without pax) to a place it can be repaired.. have quickly searched for the landing audio, but could not find it yet...

The crew themselves after hearing they had a tailstrike having looked at eachother than boooo (or the more common words f**k) and have to file a report and certainly be questioned by the Australian investigation board.

[edit] here are some pictures of the strike:
