A plane crashed on Shallowford Road Tuesday evening, luckily avoiding hitting traffic. There were only minor injuries reported from the two passengers.  The Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD) says the single-engine plane was carrying two people who are "very lucky to be alive."

Reportedly, the engine went out and the plane went down about 1/2 mile from Chattanooga Airport's nearby runway, CFD says. A small fuel leak was stopped.

As a result, there is an emergency closure of Shallowford Road between Airport Road and Cromwell Road until noon on Wednesday, November, 20, city officials say. Tunnel Blvd, Brainerd Road/Lee Hwy, and Hwy 153 are the recommended detours.
