Trying to land using SVFR
« on: February 13, 2008, 04:08:28 PM »
The weather crapped out right over the airport on Monday.. it got bad as 1 mile of vis in snow.

This resulted in a few pilots requesting special vfr clearance into the zone to land. One particular pilot tried to land three times (on two different runways) but then elected to do a full IFR approach.

About 15miles away city centre airport was showing greater than 15 miles of vis. The pilot did mention that he was going to try to land there, but decided to go full ifr instead.

The clip ends with the pilot being handed off to CZYZ. About 20 minutes later he is able to land the airplane using a full ifr approach (Not included in the clip).

For those of you who want to listen to some interesting SVFR ops (about 3 or 4 airplanes in the span of about an hour try to land) take a look at the YKZ archives for Feb 11, 2100Z to 2200Z. Some IFR traffic in there as well.
