30 Sep 2018: N818GM forced landing short of KADS - engine casualty
« on: September 30, 2018, 12:57:16 PM »
So this item just came across my Twitter feed -- N818GM apparently had a forced landing due to what appears to be an engine casualty.  (big scorch mark on the engine cowling).  KACT isn't in the feed list -- anyone perhaps have audio from KACT Approach/Tower?

Update for those monitoring:  sounds like engine failure on departure from KADS, potentially with CAPS deployment (Aircraft is an SR22).  I have ground and tower audio, working on departure now, I'll post a trimmed clip as soon as I assemble the pieces.

And here we go.  Edited for silence and other traffic.  Looks like I was able to grab the entire flight.

This clip contains audio from KADS Ground, Tower, and KDAL regional departure.

I didn't know you could deploy CAPS that low. Kudos to that pilot, sounded super competent and very calm.

Thanks for putting this together, great clip.

Yeah - that's what stood out at me too while I was in the mad dash to assemble the audio.  This guy had his stuff together.  "Well, I can't make the runway...  i'll just put 'er down on the road over here..."

If I ever have the world coming apart around me, I want to be as cool as he is.  Well done, Sir.
