C-130F Landing on Aircraft Carrier

When I found this video, I was sure that it had been "photoshop'd", or something of the sort (I don't know much about photoshop, but I don't think that it is capable of editing videos). Anyway, it looks legitimate. At the beginning, a title slide is shown for a very small fraction of a second. The slide implies that it is a video is of Air and Space Magazine. To be able to read it, pause the video at the very beginning, as it is impossible to interpret it with the video running. Also, I could not see any tail hook on the C-130. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. Anyway, check it out for yourself via Google Video:

Looks authentic to me. Notice the painted lines on the deck--the ones that angle away to the left are the ones that define the normal landing zone. This implies that the 130 was landed straight ahead, possibly so the the entire deck length was available. I think the 130 fuselage is bulky enough so that from the camera's vantage point the tailhook can't be seen.

"That airplane stopped right opposite the captain's bridge," recalled Flock. "There was cheering and laughing. There on the side of the fuselage, a big sign had been painted on that said, "LOOK MA, NO HOOK."

"The aircraft, a KC-130F refueler transport (BuNo 149798), on loan from the Marines, was delivered October 8."

I found out about this one a year or so ago, when I watched an episode from JAG. In the episode Captain Raab landed the Hercules on a carrier, so I said "Yeah right", than right on the end they had the very same video with a note honoring the pilot and co-pilot of the C-130. Great stuff.

JAG was one of the best shows on TV. I loved it :)

Shame they moved it onto friday night, when everyone stopped watching it :)

Thanks JetScan! That settles it!  :D

In regards to JAG, I love that show! I can never seem to turn the TV on at the right time to be able to see a new episode. I always end up watching the same re-runs over and over. Anyway, thanks for replying!!  :D

JAG & the C-130

Two thoughts about JAG and the C-130:

I was really looking forward to JAG when it first went on the air but I gave it up because the Prod/Dirs couldn't make up their minds about the viewers they were trying to reach.

I'd watch anything with a USN flyer in it even if he is also (very unlikely) an atty.  But then they had to go with the love interest crap and all these high-ranking broads bossing folks around.

Watched it 2-3 times and gave it up.

RE the C-130 carrier landing.

What if Jimmy Doolittle had Hercs instead of B-25s in WW2?

Bet the war would have ended much sooner!

He'd have needed a bigger aircraft carrier....        :)
