tailwind limit?
« on: September 13, 2017, 05:14:31 PM »
So the winds:
180 at 12 gust 17

now my question: tailwind component for 31R should be .64*17=11
(cos(60deg) = 0.64)

then what the hell is american going on about exceeding 15 knot tailwind?

everyone else landed just fine before they turned the airport about 15 minute later.

maybe they had a 10 knot tailwind limitation?

type was a 737-800

so now i feel stupid i guess they had the tailwind on approach on their displays?
and it was more then reported?

hmm strange anyway as it's normally surface wind which is the limit.

yeah ... first i was calculating with 190 which gives .5 so tailwind component below 10 kt.

but as i said in the recording the american says sth about 15kt but maybe that was "we are unable 15kt tailwind"

i wouldn't say most aircraft can't take more than 10kt tailwind.

actually apart from the 737 (which we have here) the boeing types can go 15
as can the current airbus types including the a320
