Speedbird 2: Last Concorde KJFK to EGLL
« on: December 25, 2007, 01:48:56 PM »
Recently I was going through my old, soon-to-be recycled laptop and discovered several audio files from October 24, 2003.

Covering 90 minutes of Kennedy ground, tower, and approach, these files document the beginning of the last Concorde flight from Kennedy to Heathrow. Here it is all boiled down to a single file with only Concorde-related comms.

Enjoy!

That's probably one of the coolest audio clips I've ever heard.  Brought goose bumps to me.

This is a cool clip. I wonder.. why were they so exact on their departure time? 7:37:15am local time.

I'd say check the history of the concorde's flying, or the first flight into/out of Kennedy, etc.  That's probably the time that something historic happened.  I'm sure it wasn't operationally necessary for THAT flight.  Just a symbolic time for something.

I just queued that up in iTunes and the song that followed was Time in a Bottle, Jim Croce.  Talk about chills.

Thanks for the clip, KTUS.  Loved hearing all the other pilots give their goodbyes and ask to hold so they could watch the takeoff.  Sigh...I sure do miss the Concorde.

Great clip!

I had the rare privelage of flying her as this very same flight # BA002 JFK-LHR on 8-5-00, 10 day after AF4590 crashed, and 10 days before the 16 month shutdown. What is amazing is, everytime I saw Concordee taxi, takeoff, or land, all eyes were on her. Every cockpit crew, every airport worker....everybody just seemed to pause in her presense and just enjoy what a remarkable and beautiful machine she was.

As we taxied out, knowing I was onboard, and knowing all eyes were on us, especially such a short time after the crash and with the grounded Air France Concorde within viewing distance, was a very amazing feeling.  Words cannot describe the takeoff; how hard you are pushed into the set, how damn loud it was.  Seeing the world at 58,000 feet was also something I will never forget.

I miss the hell out of her.

Thank you for sharing that. You - the crews - were one reason why I patched that clip together and I had hoped that one of you would find it. I saw Concorde on her first visit to Oshkosh in 1985. Nothing will ever come close to seeing Concorde do touch and goes just 100m away. They were selling rides for...five...hundred...dollars!

Err...maybe I should have said IN her as a PAX!  I was just a 23 year old Ramp Rat for Delta out of SLC at the time.  Did it posotive space for $700.00 through an interline agreement.  Thats a little better than the $6,800 for a normal, one-way ticket

I’m new to all this stumbled on this site by accident.

But both seeing and listening to this has made my evening. She was bad for the environment, she was noisy, but god was she beautiful. Not to mention how advanced she was at the time. It always makes me chuckle especially with the recent 777 incident how there is a stigma with fly by wire… if we could get it right in the 60’s using traditional pen and paper design methods we sure as hell should be able to now.

Someone, someday has to bring one of them out of retirement. She was too young to die like she did.
Thanks to the poster. Like I say its really made my evening.

When I downloaded this clip to my I-pod it listed the genre as blues.  Coincidence?

I love the clip and the emotional farewells the JFK controllers gave, Superb

I am new to this site and love the content, I thought I would add a few photos I have on my laptop they make good background images. Its such a shame that BA didn't sell concorde on to Virgin, old Branson wanted to keep her in the air under the BA colours but they were having none of it. Still I can say to my Grandchildren thats the best machine that man has ever built.

Hope you enjoy the photos

This is a cool clip. I wonder.. why were they so exact on their departure time? 7:37:15am local time.

I seem to remember that 1 or 2 other Concordes landed at Heathrow the same day and they had specific times to get there because they were landing in a certain order. I could be wrong but I heard the Heathrow Director audio for this same flght and thats what appeared to be happening.

Casper that is exactly right.  Two other concords landed that day.  In fact, i believe that this particular flight and one other were given special permission to land on parallel runways simultaneously.

On another note, I find it funny how multiple airplanes had to stop and 'trouble shoot something' at the exact time the concord was departing.

Well, if you go to the first post and download the sound clip that is attached to it then that IS the soundtrack. As long as by "Soundtrack" you mean ATC.

Wow,really made a dull evening brighten up.
It sounds if as the Departure Controller was weeping, and I love when he says "for the last time...".

Great clip.
