Southwest 4182-Frontier 756 KPHX Wingtip Clipped (2/16/2017)
« on: February 20, 2017, 03:42:48 AM »
After landing and vacating the runway 26 at KPHX, SW4182 and Frontier 756 collide wing tips, causing a series of communications regarding the issue and several taxi problems for other aircraft in the surrounding area.

PS: To those that like the transcript and the edited audio, I am always looking for more to add to my archive. Please feel free to send them to.

Note: The news report got the flight number incorrect for the Frontier Aircraft.

Thanks for the great job and time, Chris

I'm working a video about this event but I'm not sure where exactly they collided. I've been diving through the PHX layout chart and can't understand how Frontier pushing back on Gate 25 can collide the Southwest taxiing 'south route' (Guess this is SIERRA taxiway to transition from north to south ramps?) I'm missing or misunderstanding something for sure.

Appreciate the help!  :-)

EDIT: I was looking at Gate A25 and not Gate 25 on Terminal 3. Now I see the possible pushback route of the Frontier and Southwest coming over just on taxiway C... how couldn't they see each other? (I mean tug and SWA pilots)

Hi there,

Here's my guess shown in a video. If the Frontier was pushing back off Gate 25 and the Southwest was taxiing on C.... this is the only way their wings could collide.

Frontier did read back "after Southwest"... maybe he didn't tell the tug so? Maybe the pilot told the tug to push after the Southwest but the tug didn't do so?
