This morning (8/4), one of the pilots on the departure line for 4L, asked the controller about a single engine airplane that came into JFK last night and apparently crashed and bashed the prop up good. Plane is still in the run up block this am. Probably, an interesting clip, anyone hear it?
-
What time, I know someone who was flying in there in a single engine cessna.
-
The Controlled said around 8pm, didn't have time to search through all of the clips.

Sounds like he had a tire blow. That happens, I had it once at CDW and it's surprising but nothing serious.
I compiled the attached from JFK Tower 2330-0000, JFK tower 0000-0030 and JFK Clearence/Delivery 0000-0030.
Unfortunately according to Flightaware this guy either doesn't know what equipment code to follow, or he flew into JFK without a Mode C. I guess it's possible, but not without a waiver.
-
As usual, awesome job by ATC (esp. tower, he doesn't screw around). Jetblue don't blast your reaction right over the air, when a pilot is trying to recover from an emergency. Sorry, going through dispatcher training.
-
Excellent clip - thanks for posting.
"Anything you need, sir, it gets done."
IMO very impressive, respectful response from controllers who normally don't handle little bugsmashers.
-
Haha, sounds like one of my landings in the -700: "WHHOOOOOAAAAAA!"
Controller got a little excited there for a second, which is a natural reaction. Did a pretty good talking down the pilot post-accident.
-
I know that plane very well (GCMZR) - I've got a fair amount of hours on it, some with long cross countries.
It does have Mode C in it.
I still have to question the logic on taking a C172 (non IFR certified) plane into JFK. It does have a full instrument/radio stack, and does have the alternate static source - but it's not IFR certified.
-
What a wonderful piece of controlling. Every transmissions seems to have the pilot's best interests in mind.
I have no idea if the emergency equipment was required, but even it wasn't, I'm sure it made for a useful drill.
-
What a great response from the controller - "whatever you want it will get done"

Despite him being a C172 at a huge airport, very professional to treat him with all the same courtesy as a heavy jet airliner.
Great clip to hear.

Ha, now if they actually treated the airliners with this courtesy that you speak of, it'd be a perfect world.
Sorry, just had to say it. Ya left the door open on that one.
