TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Everyone is safe after a small plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Tyler early Thursday morning.

Pilot Josh Carroll said the aircraft’s engine died while heading to Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, prompting him to land just outside Toll 49 on Texas Highway 31.

Carroll was the only person on board and was unharmed. He said there was no damage to the aircraft.

Information on FlightAware.com recorded the plane taking off from San Antonio’s Stinson Municipal Airport on Wednesday at 9:58 p.m. The plane made an emergency landing a few hours later at 12:12 a.m. in Tyler. The Federal Aviation Administration’s website showed the aircraft was a 1979 fixed wing single-engine plane manufactured by Cessna. According to the FAA, the registered owner was under Tyler Flyers Inc., which is located at 736 Fairmont Drive in Tyler.

Eastbound lanes of Chandler Highway were shut down temporarily while crews worked to clear the scene, but at least one lane was reopened.

The cause of the engine failure is still unknown.
