NORTH BEND, Ore. (KPTV) - Five people were rescued after the plane they were in went off a runway and into a nearby bay Monday morning, according to the Southwest Oregon Regional Airport.

At about 6:12 a.m., a small private plane went off Runway 23 at the airport in North Bend and crashed into Coos Bay. The plane, which has been secured by first responders, is located about 100 feet off the east end of the runway in the water.

Airport officials say all four passengers and the pilot were rescued and taken to Bay Area Hospital, where they are being treated for minor injuries.

Air traffic on the main runway was shut down during the investigation. Service was restored just before 10:30 a.m., and the plane was removed from the water.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident.
