Small Balloons on Final in Seattle
« on: August 04, 2007, 23:37:38 UTC »
Just listened to my brother's plane getting take off clearance in KSEA and noticed earlier KSEA tower notifying planes on final to 34R about small balloons hovering at about 1900ft!

Listen how the female atc controller chuckles right after receiving the news from Alaska 377 at 29:05 until the end of the file.  http://archive-server.liveatc.net/ksea/KSEA_TWR-Aug-04-2007-2230Z.mp3

I once saw one of those mylar helium "happy birthday" balloons at 3000ft.  That was a real wtf moment.  :)

I have had two separate close passes with those party balloons, too.   One was at about 9,000 feet over Virginia and the other about 3,000 departing Teterboro, NJ (USA).

As a glider pilot, I often thermal with ears of corn, plastic walmart bags, balloons, anything that is light pretty much
