Sloppy readbacks
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:35:33 AM »
I've been listening to this archive, near the beginning and the one before, everyone just seems to not really read anything back.
And then up to 6 mins, one guy saying no need to kick my butt, he was only giving him his IFR Details.  If you're not ready to copy them twice, then you should re-learn something or don't get moody.

That is pretty disgraceful.  This person's worst nightmare will be holding in solid IFR and hearing "we have an amended clearance, it's a full route clearance, advise ready to copy".

This seems like a pretty standard clearance but maybe some IFR pilots can chime in.

I'm thinking the problem here is he probably filed direct destination (which you never get in California) and was expecting that so he did not have a pen/pencil and was trying to do it from memory.  That's the problem with weekend warriors with wizzbang GPS units; they always seem to file direct and expect to get it.

This pilot had some other things on his mind or just could not focus for some reason.  Either way, he should not be flying IFR until he has had some remedial training with a good CFII.  Everyone can have a bad day, but launching into busy airspace with that kind of lack of attention to detail is asking for trouble (whether flying VFR *or* IFR).

If it's as easy as pie, then why, in the comfort of your computer chair, did you miss something as easy as the sqwawk of 4215 after hearing it 7 times?
