The moral of this story: Always check the NOTAMs before your drug flight!

I guess I was just wondering what the radio traffic was when this was going on. I just got my sport pilot license and I like to listen to these clips to familiarize myself with radio work and to also learn from other peoples mistakes. I spent 8 years flying an ultralight and never once thought about if a TFR was in place while I was flying in my area. Now as an AOPA member, I get the emails about TFRs in my area. But I still wonder what the audio would be when your getting buzzed by some F-16s.... :-o

In this day in age it is probably a good idea to have this in your kneeboard when flying:  http://www.aopa.org/asf/publications/intercept.pdf

Checking the NOTAMS does not always help sadly.

Based in LEX, a year or two ago, I was going to make a flight to Northern Kentucky but would not be going over Ohio.  I checked the NOTAMS for Kentucky and nothing.

I was about to leave and then I saw on the TV that the President was going to Cincinnati (CVG) - checked for Ohio and low and behold there was a NOTAM for the Pres. for CVG.

CVG is in Kentucky - NOT Ohio.

I would have flown into around the restricted airspace.  Phew.

That being said, I called the FAA and tried to explain the error but nobody seemed to be to interested.

Be careful or Wharhol's 15 minutes of fame prediction might come true for you!!
