Title: Security Issue at KBUF (Buffalo, New York)
Post by: lilbond on May 11, 2008, 05:03:32 PM
There's currently some sort of "security issue" at KBUF (http://audio.liveatc.net:8012/kbuf.m3u). I'll post a recording of it when the situation is over.
From what I've heard so far, they aren't allowing any planes or people into one of the terminals, and TSA has completely shut that terminal down.

Edit: I'm not able to edit the audio clips to shorten them, but here's the links to the files in the archives. http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kbuf/KBUF-May-11-2008-2100Z.mp3

This is what WKBW news said:
A security breach at the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport Sunday afternoon grounds flights and prompts a massive re-screening effort.
Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority officials say a woman of approximately 55 years of age bypassed security screening at 4:04 p.m. by entering the concourse area through what is supposed to be an exit only. Security workers apparently did not notice this breach. Officials tell 7 News the woman then proceeded to her gate for a Jet Blue flight to New York City, and at the Jet Blue gate counter she told an employee she never went through security screening. The employee then notified airport police who in turn called TSA.

Authorities believe the woman made an honest mistake when she bypassed security, and she volunteered the information that she had not been screened.

Travel is back to normal at the airport now.

Human security is an emerging school of thought about the practice of international security. Human security offers a critique of, and advocates for an alternative to, the traditional state-based conception of security.
