Can anyone help me out with finding the full ATC recordings from JFK 4-30-2014 for Sun Country 248?  It was a pm departure and had to return to JFK.

I thought Brian Will was one of you?

I'd like to find the full 25 min recording.

Sun Country 248 gets a heading & is asked to contact departure at about 20:20 on this file:

http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kjfk/KJFK-Twr-May-01-2014-0200Z.mp3

Emergency is declared (audio heard in the above YouTube clip) is ~ 20:48 ish...

First time ever finding one via archives -- not that bad once you figure out the time conversion!  Unfortunately, I don't know how to split it up quite yet / more of a programmer, will leave that part to the experts...  ;-)

Edit -->  They actually *do* switch to departure soon after the above...  That can be found at the link below;  Sun Country 248 comes in at ~22:47 on this file:

http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kjfk/KJFK-NY-Dep-May-01-2014-0200Z.mp3

Edit #2 -->  They come onto KJFK Approach (final) at ~26:20, file here:

http://archive-server.liveatc.net/kjfk/KJFK-NY-App-Final-May-01-2014-0200Z.mp3

Edit #3 -->  Last I hear of them is ~26:34 -- on the above feed -- when they call out altitude and restate that they're an emergency aircraft.

Am guessing that on the KJFK final feed we are likely only hearing the aircraft, and maybe that they end up of of range, but not sure?  They sound fairly clear on the last transmission so am unsure...  Maybe that's just the extent of my newbie skills;  I did check other KJFK comms briefly for the time period but didn't hear anything related, also didn't check overly close though...

Thank you!  I'm reviewing it now and will try to clip it together.  Aeromexico sure got excited near the end of the recording with windshear!

OK guys, here's the audio clip of the entire flight of SCX248 from takeoff to landing condensed for time...it runs a little over 11 minutes

I also included an image of their flight track from Flightaware so you can see how they flew while they were going through their checklists.

RonR - Could I ask you where the rest was, which feed/frequencies?  I admittedly didn't look super hard after jumping around a few times & finding the majority but I'd like to get better at being able to quickly zoom to the right feeds/times/places.

Any insight appreciated for my own future personal knowledge!  Great recording you prepared btw, fantastic!  Thank you!   :-)

Thank you for the kind words :)

In this particular case SCX248 was asked to change frequencies a number of times.  In fact, at one point he was told to contact NY Approach on 132.4 and as you may have heard, that frequency wasn't even in use by NY Tracon yet.  Fortunately that didn't cause any problems for the emergency aircraft; it was corrected fairly quickly.  Imagine though if the situation was much more urgent and they were given a bad frequency...

Anyway, you have to listen to the recordings and whenever a flight is asked to contact another controller, you have to get that new frequency.  This way you know what feed to go to in order to continue listening to that specific flight.  Keep in mind though that Liveatc does not have feed coverage everywhere (yet) so it's possible you might not be able to hear everything.  But in the case of SCX248, every frequency had a feed.

Another thing is each archived feed is divided into 30 minute segments and in this case the entire flight covered two of those half-hour segments.

And finally, the archives are stored in Zulu time so you have to convert the local time it happened into Zulu time to find the right archive.  For example, if you want to find something that happened at 6:00AM local time in JFK, you'd have to add four hours to get Zulu time (6:00AM EDT = 10:00Z, 6:00PM EDT = 22:00Z).

I hope that helps...

Ron

Thank you for the guidance, appreciate it -- I think I got most of it down but was tripped up when they switched to the unmonitored frequency.  I should have looked at the other feeds at that timestamp mark and I think I would have been able to follow the rest.

Thanks again for the great clip & the guidance, is appreciated!
