KLAS/Janet Clips
« on: October 16, 2007, 01:03:32 PM »
Anyone have any interesting clips about Area 51 or the Janet Terminal in Vegas? I was listening to the KLAS feed last night and heard the Janet call sign a few times and started wondering if anyone has any interesting clips involving them. I found an interesting website (probably from reading old posts in this forum) that has some ATC clips that they say are from Groom Lake after Janet changes their call sign. In one, the pilot makes a mistake and calls as Janet 09 instead of Sting 09. I've only listened to a few but the ones I did download were pretty interesting. Another site I found had the security frequencies. "Base" was telling a patrol truck to check out a certin area and when they got out there they called it clear. Right after that "base" called again to check out the same area and the patrol said that it was still them leaving the area. This sounds like they've got some sort of ground sensors but can't see what's out there. There were some pretty interesting clips on these sites...

Anymore out there?

I met a controller recently who claimed to have worked there, as a controller, while he was in the military...beat myself up over not asking him more

But try, http://www.dreamlandresort.com/info/janet_audio.html

To whom it my concern

Neither the Air Force nor the Department of Defense owns or operates any location known as "Area 51." There are a variety of activities, some of which are classified, throughout what is often called the Air Force's Nellis Range Complex. The range is used for testing of technologies and systems and training for operations critical to the effectiveness of the United States military forces and the security of the United States. There is an operating location near Groom Dry Lake. Specific activities and operations conducted on the Nellis Range, both past and present, remain classified and cannot be discussed publicly.

I never really said anything about it being operated by the DOD or USAF....

But they can deny all they want but it doesn't change the fact that you can see the base on Google Earth or any other sat/map program (including yahoo and terraserver). You can even see the "Janet" 727's with the red stripes at the base. Or the fact that all of the "Janet" aircraft are registered to the Department of the Air Force under a government category on the FAA's online registry.

And the Janet VIRTUAL Airline (janetva.net) is offline right now.

The first request was for audio clips, thus in this thread.

I have no idea what powder you are talking about, but sounds like maybe someone did a couple of lines of it before posting

I think you're missing his point.

"Area 51"  is a name the public gave Groom Lake and it's associated base.  "51" was just a section of a Topo map that the area fell under.  Back in '95 or '97 the government came clean and aknowledged the base's existance.

There really isn't mystery on what goes on out there anymore.  It is where the US Government tests its latest and greatest toys.  That is all.

EG&G was contracted to provide transportation to mostly civilian employees....and get them to the remote areas of the Nellis Test Range/Site : Groom Lake, Tonopah Test Range, and others...NOT "Area 51"

What is really funny are some of the acronyms that people have come up with to identify what "Janet" means:
"Joint Army Navy Employee Transport" or "Just Another Non Existant Terminal" when in reality, it is just a name.

I'm not trying to start an argument but why do people need to act like they're something they're not? Anyone that is really affiliated with some secret government agency/contractor would most likely try and stay low-key. Or.. "Fly under the radar" if you pardon the aviation pun.

Just to clarify, I miss typed.. a few times... The Janet a/c are 737's, not 727's. And a webpage that has a lot of photos can be found here. I also attached a few Google Earth shots below.

Cammo dude either did a few lines, is trying to get a message out, or is really really fond of a crappy Jeff Goldblum movie about a dude that is electricity.

But getting back to the original topic, are these two sites the only places with any clips or does anyone have anything that hasn't been posted yet?

Better be careful talking about secret government operations like this. Who knows, maybe the CIA will find this information and all the suddenly the website will be shut down (probably will take them 3-4 years to decipher our various secret codes used on these forums such as LOL and IMHO, etc)
