MELBOURNE — At 6:57 p.m. Thursday night, the Melbourne Fire Department, along with the Melbourne Police Department, were dispatched to the area of I-95 and West Eau Gallie Boulevard for a reported aircraft down.

An aircraft was located right side up in the parking lot of Renninger’s Flea and Farmers Market near I-95 after making an emergency landing, possibly due to mechanical failure.

A downed high-tension power line was also in the parking lot and stretched across the entrance ramp to southbound Interstate 95.

The pilot was attempting to return Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The aircraft then struck the power lines, ultimately coming to a rest in the Renninger’s Flea Market and Farmer’s Market parking lot.  The aircraft had two people onboard — the pilot and co-pilot. One person had minor injuries, the other was uninjured.

All roads in the area were closed as the aircraft clipped a high-tension power line, according to MPD.

Melbourne Flight Training of Melbourne is listed as the owner of this 1979 Beech twin engine aircraft on the FAA-Registry site.

The crash remains under investigation and the FAA and NTSB were notified and are assuming the investigation.
