LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Three people have died in a small plane crash in Bath Township, according to township officials.

Police say the crash occurred at around 5:00 p.m. near the intersection of Clark Road and Peacock Road. Three passengers were confirmed to be aboard the plane. Police say all three have been confirmed deceased.

  At this time, police do not know why the aircraft crashed or what its intended destination was. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.

6 News on the scene saw heavy smoke and fire in the area of what appears to be the crash site, located in a wooded area.  A large first responder presence was also seen in the area, including a helicopter flying around near the scene, fire engines, and at least one ambulance.
