Title: Open Skies 757 Smoke in Cabin

On January 4 at about 2245 local time Open Skies Flight 6 (BOS6) had just departed KJFK and was approaching 11000 feet when they reported smoke in the cabin to ATC.  The flight asked to hold for a short time after which they returned safely to KJFK.  They never declared an emergency although I think ATC may have done it for them.  I'm wondering why they would want to hold instead of returning right away (they said they didn't need to dump fuel) or for that matter why they didn't declare an emergency?  Unless they figured out what caused the smoke and dealt with it...anyway, here's the audio.

Also interesting, when ATC requested readout of souls, pilot indicated 124 SOB.
When approach requested same, pilot indicated 150 Passengers

Significant discrepancy especially as the latter wouldn't appear to include crew!

The incident and discrepancy would have been a good deal more serious if the pilot had reported losing some souls between giving the two figures! Lol!

Joking aside, unless my ears are deceiving me (perfectly possible unfortunately), isn't there a discrepancy when the pilot reads back the QNH?
A little worrying that neither of these discrepancies were queried at the time?

Yep Geoff, "QNH" as the pilot said, altimeter in the USA, was 30.32. They read back 30.30. ATC ignored it, or didn't hear it. :|
